A few weeks ago, I experienced every Mac user's nightmare my internal SSD crashed out of nowhere. No warning. Just a spinning beach ball, a black screen, and then nothing.
I panicked.
I was working on a video project when my MacBook Pro suddenly froze. After a hard reboot, macOS wouldn't load just a blinking folder icon with a question mark. I knew this wasn't good.
Unfortunately, I hadn't backed up in over a month .
So I started searching for DIY Mac data recovery tools and that's how I found EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional for Mac .
After booting my crashed Mac using the USB, the software recognized my internal SSD even though macOS wouldn't.
That was the first good sign.
The deep scan took around 2.5 hours for a 512GB SSD. But when it finished, I saw most of my files photos, videos, Final Cut libraries, even temp folders.
EaseUS sorts recovered files by type, which made it easier to locate critical documents.

My Options Were Limited
Apple's Disk Utility couldn't repair the drive. Terminal commands didn't help. I wasn't ready to pay hundreds for professional recovery services. So I started searching for DIY Mac data recovery tools and that's how I found EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional for Mac .
Trying EaseUS: Setup & First Impressions
I downloaded the trial version on a secondary Mac and created a bootable USB recovery drive using EaseUS. Their site has a pretty clear guide on how to do this. After booting my crashed Mac using the USB, the software recognized my internal SSD even though macOS wouldn't.
That was the first good sign.
The Scan: Time-Consuming but Worth It
The deep scan took around 2.5 hours for a 512GB SSD. But when it finished, I saw most of my files photos, videos, Final Cut libraries, even temp folders.

What I Recovered (And What I Didn't)
Recovered:
- My full video project folder (60GB+)
- All photos from the past 6 months
- Client invoices and PDFs
- Notes and documents from iCloud (even offline ones!)
Lost:
- A few corrupted video files (probably overwritten)
- Some app settings and caches no big deal
Is EaseUS Worth It?
The Professional version isn't free, but if your data is important (mine was), it's a small price compared to a full data recovery service .Pros:
- Easy-to-use interface
- Bootable USB creation for non-bootable Macs
- Recovered almost everything I needed
- No technical skills required
Cons:
- Deep scans take time
- Some recovered files had generic names (you need to preview)
